Assignment 9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

  • Who: Now that we have done a second round of interviews, I realize that the target market I thought this would help the most is not necessarily who will use this product the most. I thought that making hospital phone lines and clinic phone lines faster and more convenient would help elderly people because they are the part of the population that had to be in and out of the doctor the most, but really this is geared to younger generation that have grown up familiar with doing everything from their phone. They are going to be the ones the most comfortable with making the appointments and the least skeptic if there information is still secure.
- I spoke to some old people, and when I was telling them about what I wanted to do, they were not so happy about what I was trying to offer them, they were worried that they would not know how to use it and then mess up and that what if someone takes their information and uses it. They were not really to happy with the solution that I was trying to give them and still would rather call in which still works if the rest of the people are using the service.
- When I spoke the people that were around the same age as me, it was all for them, they were excited to be able to do it from their phone. I honestly think its because it means they can do it without having to talk to anyone on the phone, which was one person dream. I mean it work we do it with everything else so healthcare is the next logical step.

  • What: One of the elderly people even though I kinda laughed at the idea of their information being and used especially things like their blood-work. They have a good point, someone could easily open the phone and private information might be shared in an incorrect manner.
  • Why: I feel like the idea keeps getting redefined and worked on but the way that it is marketed and offered to people needs to change to fit the needs of a different market demographic.

Inside the boundary
Outside the boundary
Who
Younger people and parents who are well versed with their smart phone and current technology
Elderly people who are not comfortable with technology/ people are worried about sensitive information being exposed
What
To help reduce wait time
To help reduce being put on call
To help with the anxiety some people get when they need to speak to their doctor
To ensure that the information is consented by the patient to be seen and safe
To clear up the phone lines so those that really want to use it can.
Why
Because some doctor’s call do not warrant the doctor needing to call you and tell you information that could have been relayed via a simple text or email.
There are older people who still appreciate having the physical communication and that also needs to be respected and made easier on them.

  1. Hey Stephany!

I think you’ve got a great idea, and was interested by your findings. I’m not too shocked that old people aren’t thrilled about the idea; I can imagine my grandparents having skepticism around the concept. However, as we move towards an online world and people become more comfortable with giving personal information out over the internet, the higher the demand will be for your service.

  2. Hi Stephany,
I think your interviews were successful because they gave you insight into a new market you hadn't previously identified for your solution. I am not surprised that the people you identified for being inside your market is younger people or people well versed in technology, because I feel I could definatley benefit from your solution. I did find it interesting because I never thought about it before, but people are very skeptical about giving info over the phone, and especially dealing with medical information, than can get very sensitive. But overall, great post.

  3. Stephany,

I really liked your analysis of why this product/service would end up being geared towards younger generations. As hopeful as we may be about providing older people with all the great innovations that technology has to offer, we have to keep in mind that they may just not be willing to utilize it. I also think your idea could still go far even with a younger consumer group! Great post.
