Assignment 14A – Halfway Reflection

Halfway Reflection

1. Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course? -

  • I began the course thinking that I had all the time in the world to do my assignments so relaxed and wasn't worried about watching the videos on time or left the assignments for the day before it was due. The method that I have developed is to look and see what the assignments are after doing the cupcake for the week, see what the assignments are if it is one that requires interviews or more extensive research go and do it as soon as you can. Then take about 2-3 hours in a day that is relatively less busy for you and just knock out the assignments. Also keep track of the blog posts that you comment on.
      2. Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up". What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
  • I am pretty sure I think about giving up almost every day, but that is more me being stressed about more aspects in my life than just this class, but the day that I almost gave up on this class was one of the Fridays. That whole week I was studying for my biology exam that was at 8 pm on Friday and the other exam that I had on Friday morning at 8 am and I had completely forgot about the assignments and with my luck when i got back home after my exam I had to run and do the video pitch and other assignment, the only thing that got me through it was thinking I did not want to fail this class and finally eating after I was done.
3. Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?

  •  Foster the skill of getting into using a calendar or a planner, using your phone to right things down is great and setting a reminder for things is all helpful but usually what happens is that you ignore the reminder until the last moment and are left scrambling, buy something that you can physically see and set it out so that the deadlines becomes more real.
  • Develop the tenacious mindset, this class is not that hard there is no complicated math or science so think that this is the class that you are going to do really well in and use as a buffer for the rest of your classes that you aren't doing so great in. It is easy to do well in this class so do it.
  • Find the groupme for this class or set it up yourself because they usually help you out with how to do an assignment or you can find people to interview in a pinch. It will be a support system for when you need it.

  1. Hi Stephany,
Your dog is so cute! I definitely agree with giving up because of stress it's mostly due to the fact that we have other classes and the stress combined can lead to that. But I'm glad you've managed your way through the class and have found very useful tips! Your tips are great especially the groupme because it has helped me a lot or reminds me of assignments I forgot were due that week.

  2. Stephany,
I totally agree about the workload of this course. I thought just having the posts and assignments due every week would take only a short amount of time, but to really understand these assignments and get the most out of them, it helps to watch the lectures first. Totally agree with Guiliana above that your dog is super cute!

  3. Hi Stephany,
I really like your picture you included of your dog, I think that incoming students for this class will appreciate it, I know I did. I also agree with your statement that using a calendar/planner will help a lot in this course. I know it has for me! Having that visual of when your assignments are due really ahs helped me work ahead and not wait until the last minute because I forgot a deadline or something.
