Assignment 26A – Celebrating Failure
Celebrating Failure
- Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time.
- Well I failed Chem 2, or I didn't officially fail it was was failing in the class, had a trash grade and decided to drop it before I officially failed the class. Yeah that was not a fun time for me, i did bad on the first exam and then when it came time for the second exam, I had tried all new studying habits. I really thought I was gonna do well on the exam but, boy was I wrong. Didn't think that it was possible but I did even worse. In order to not lose my scholar ship and drop my gpa and possibly be put on probation in CLAS. Everything that I did failed and nothing worked. I didn't even bother with the rest of it because I knew that there was no bringing a grade back from the dead.
- Tell us what you learned from it.
- The University of Florida usually doesn't care for its students, big shocker and this is a controversy to say but of the 3 advisers that I spoke to only one of them was helpful. The others wanted me to basically change my major or look for something else because obviously i couldn't handle any of this. To which I left the office and screamed into the void for a while. I also found that there is many hoops and jumps that a IA student has to go through to be able to do just about anything on this campus that isn't formally done through IA. I also learned I need to suck it up and just go ask for more in depth help but I had also felt failed.
- Reflect, in general, on what you think about failure. Failure is hard, isn't it? It's embarrassing, sure, but it also means that we have to change something about ourselves. Talk about how you handle failure (emotionally, behaviorally). Finally, talk about how this class has changed your perspective on failure- are you more likely to take a risk now that you were just a few months ago?
- Yeah no still not a fan of failing. Not on my list to keep doing. I get that is is important to fail and i'll probably keep failing without a doubt, but no matter how many time that it happens to me it doesn't feel any better. I will take sicks and put myself out there if things make me anxious, failure is not fun but it is just a natural process of life and I will feel like an embarrassment every time but just got to get through it.
Hey Stephany!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experiences. I'm so sorry to hear about your course... how frustrating! Going to a big university, it can feel like they don't care about you. The advising at this school, without a doubt, needs assistance. I've heard tons of horror stories like yours... at least you're not alone in that regard. However, everything happens for a reason. I really believe that if you put in hard work, good always comes out... even if it wasn't what you initially hoped for.
ReplyDeleteHi Stephany, I can completely relate to you, by saying that failing is no fun. Especially, when you know that you have prepared for an exam. At the same time, I also understand that failure can lead to learning more about why this issue is happening. I think for a business, it’s better to fail in the beginning rather than later on when the company is more established. By going through hardships, in the beginning, can help the business prepare for issues that could happen in the future.
Hey Stephany,
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty funny how many of us have been there. In classes we know we're doing so poorly we have no idea how the heck we got into school. Moreover, for those of us with scholarships where something like this could throw everything down for us. But hey, you did what you had to, and you're done. You're not stressing with exam after exam. Sure something else might be going on, but that's done. I hope you took the breather that you needed at that time and now you have to get back up. Keep looking for help somewhere else, there's bound to be someone out there. I really wish you the best of luck, it's tough but don't let that stop you.
Hey Stephany,
ReplyDeleteI have many friends that have had trouble with that class and advisors have told them the exact same thing. It sucks that we're in such a big university that honestly it's hard to find someone willing to give us the help we need without being in a rush. I've heard tons of stories thank god it hasn't happened to me yet. The day it does i'll probably be prepared for it. I hate failing too but it certainly does help you learn. Goodluck in future courses!
