Assignment 21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

Reading Reflection No. 2

1. What was the general theme or argument of the book?
- The general theme of the book is you need to fail, and fail often. Because once you fail and learn from that you will start to succeed in life. That doesn't mean that we should just do bad at every project we are working on, but instead to be selfish and decide to work on something because it is an investment to yourself, both personally and economically.

2. How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
- In this class above learning that we should be good entrepreneurs or how to think differently about problems, it really showed me how many times people fail and fail before they start to see and success. Like the book I read before this about Steve Job literally messed up so bad he was kicked out of the bushiness he had started, the important thing to learn from both of these books is that failure is not bad. The important part is to take it and learn from it. To continue to pursue success and to continue to work on your own goals and ambitions.

3. If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
- Something that I would have students do is maximize their personal energy, it sounds corny and very motivational speaker but sometimes that is what people need to hear. The activity would consist of students taking a blank sheet of paper and draw themselves in the middle and then drawing three circles from there and in the circle closest to you should be what is going to make you basically survive and give you the energy for the rest of the day (so for example food or rest). Then on the other circles should be the things that we consider important that we have to do in our days nd then the last outer circle what is important in the long run. It should make students realize that some of the more important things in life aren't big picture but the little things. Then maybe they have to turn in a one page paper about how that made them feel.

4. What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed the most from your expectations?
- What I liked about this book was that it hit me much harder than I thought it would. I had been going through some stuff this week and did not realize that I needed to read that it was okay to fail from the guy that draws cartoons but I really needed that, There is always this pressure to be excellent but there is nothing wrong with doing just good or doing well. A lot of it is pressure we put on ourselves from being compared to others. The three priorities that he put to have a successful formula for yourself are to be selfish and look out for yourself first, then look after your own personally economy and from there branch out to looking at the other things in your life.

  1. Hi Stephany, the theme of this book sounds really interesting. I think that in order to succeed, you have to fail once or twice, I feel like that is the only way to truly understand how to work for what you want. If you were just easily given something without putting in the hard work, it wouldn’t feel as rewarding. This is a book that I will definitely be picking up to read!

  2. Hi Stephany, when I read the first sentence of the first question, I found the theme pretty interesting. I think the author has a strong opinion on failure and thinks that’s the only way one will succeed. I love how you used a comparison in your second question to describe your explanation about the book you read. I’m glad you still learned something from reading this book during this hectic week of yours.

  3. Hi Stephany,
Your book sounds interesting but just for some feedback on your post, I would suggest putting your book title and author in the beginning of your post to give your reader some sort of preview of what you will be answering questions about. I also agree that this book does have some good points and tips that a lot of students can relate to and apply to their lives, especially that it is ok to fail, multiple times. Overall, good post!

  4. Hi Stephany,
As others above me have metioned, you should have included the title and author of your book to clear up confusion. However, your post was consise and informative. This course has emphasized the importance of tenacity— and it sure seems like this book did too. I’m sure there are many parallels between the book and the course lectures.

  5. Hi Stephany,
This book sounds very interesting, and something I definitely want to read. I do agree with the book that you need to put effort on the projects that you actually want to do. If you fail then that is okay, and you can learn from it. I don't believe that anyone is perfect since we are all human and everyone makes mistakes. As long as you tried your hardest than that is all that matters at the end of the day, and you can try again later. Overall, your post was very well written and it makes me want to read this book.
