Assignment 19A – Idea Napkin No. 2

Idea Napkin No. 2

Who are you. What are your talents are. What are your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?
  • I am Stephany Fuentes, and after talking to some of the people close to me, i found that I am way harder on myself than I need to be. I find myself often putting down the greatest parts of myself because I don't want to feel like I am bragging, but there are times that I have to own who I am. I am leader and very outspoken about the ideas that I am passionate about, so I should be sharing my ideas instead of being worried that other people might not agree with me.
  • The idea of starting this business is intriguing because I have always wanted to be in the medical field because it is what appeals to me the most, so being able to have my own business while still being involved in the care of patients would be huge for me.
What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).
  • Over the course of the pitches and peer feedback, what the service itself that I am offering has changed but the core concept behind has remained. The idea is still to help people contact their physicians and make appointments as simple as possible. I am wanting to implement this in clinics first so that they can be able to transition their patients slowly into the app and how it works, so that can be assured that it will change their clinic experience for the better. Messages will come from the app and can be activated through email or text, they will get messages about their medical information or if it is more important schedule a time to call that will assure the patient isn't busy and the doctor or nurse practitioner will be ready to talk at the moment taking out wait times. There is also the factor of being able to make appointments in the app and see a virtual waiting room to know how long you will be waiting to see the doctor. The idea is to streamline patient and medical professional communication so more people will be willing to see a doctor.
Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychological characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?
  • Well, ironically enough most of my customers will have a smart phone. Yet, the underlying thing that all these people with a phone have is a busy lifestyle and knowledge on how to utilize technology without getting lost in it. Most of my customers will realistically be younger adults, people that are 20-30 that are just starting on their own when usually their parents aren't as involved in their care or people who are busy with school or jobs so they are used to doing things quickly from their phones. It would come as second nature for these people to check their phones and communicate through their phones. The other key demographic that would rally be into using this is going to be mothers. Mothers are the busiest people having to worry about their children and jobs, so anything that is going to make their life easier they would greatly appreciate. They are in and out of doctor visits and are always scheduling appointments for others, so they would be mainly using this a lot.
  • The main client advertised to is the medical clinics, because we would have to integrate the system into their computers and teach them how to use them. They are the ones that are mainly giving us the revenue because they are paying for the subscription. They are the ones sending the message to their clients and giving us more people downloading our app. The clinics if everything were to go as planned then this service would go to hospitals.
Why do they care? your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its valuable to them.  Here, explain why customers will actually pay you more money to use your product or service.
  • Business car because this is also making it easier for them, in the medical field the core is to make help the patients but they need to be able to help themselves to better help the patients. So it is easier for the clinics to designate people to be sending the messages or working the computers and it can be an assistant in the office which is also possibly opening more positions. This is also going to make it easier for them to communicate with patients and also reducing the amount of possibly upset patients that they have to work with.
  • I think customers are not aware that this is a problem that bothers them until the solution is offered to them and they will then realize that they could not believe that they had gone so long without the app. People will believe in this clearing up time in their schedule which always is exciting for people because it means they can have more time to give to themselves.
What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?
  • I have an idea that nobody else has executed correctly or focused on doing. Most companies when it comes to the medical field focus on the equipment and immediate care, although that is good, using preventative care is better for helping people in the long run when it comes to their health. This is about improving the patient is experience which is just as important as the quality of care that is given to the patients. We are focusing in the patients and that enable the health care providers to free up their time to better improve the services that they are offering to the patients. Which keeps my company and our potential core values from others that are more focused on solely making a profit.
In addition to these five elements, please spend a paragraph evaluating whether you believe these elements fit together or whether there are aspects of your business concept that are weaker/ out-of-joint with the others.
  • I think all these point that I have been addressing are gong to come together nicely to make a company that will be successful. It is going to attract people that want to work for us that are passionate about helping others and have found a good way of doing it.  The idea is to make a change in how people communicate without cutting out communication but instead making it easier to reach out. Not only that but my strengths and knowledge are what makes me able to approach clinics and really sell the idea to them and show them that they really need it.
Feedback Memo: I have reflected on my own strengths that I usually don't own in my daily life because I am worried about how others would react to that. So I decided to change that, while doing that the idea for the business came easier to me and more ways of executing it became easier as well.  I have also changed it to the way that I am offering this service to people, I have find a way to clearly define what  I am offering because many people are asking about that.

  1. Hi Stephany,
I also did the same thing while doing this assignment. I had to step back and think about my strengths, which is something really weird to do. But like you mentioned I think it helped me get a better understanding of how I want to run my business and how I want to be seen by consumers. As well as thinking about how to improve my weakness.

  2. Hi Stephany, I like how you have considered this assignment an opportunity to alter the way you are offering this service. But reflecting on your own strengths and weaknesses can be difficult, like you said, since everyone perceives things and people differently. I am glad you could use your strengths and weaknesses you have to get insight on your idea and possibly improving some factors.

  3. Hi Stephany,
I also don't believe that I have any competition in regards to people having the same product/business idea as me. I also had to make my second Idea Napkin more specific on what I am offering to my customers, because I received feedback that said some of my points were vague and they wanted more details. So I went back in and changed some of the points so there was no room for confusion.

  4. Hi Stephany,
I thought you did a great job at your post. More specifically, I like how you pointed out the weaknesses that your friends and family see. I think it's very important to know your weaknesses so that you can improve them. Also, I really liked how you thorough you are with your post, and how you adapted your answers from the comments from your first Idea Napkin. I really like your idea have text message services for appointment and medical feedback, and I think you should pursue this venture.

  5. Stephany,

I have received similar input from close friends and family that I am harder on myself than I need to be. While it can be debilitating if I'm being too hard, I think it helps to really propel me forward and keep me motivated -- so I'm sure you feel the same way. Great post and good changes to your original.

  6. Hi Stephany,
I like how you implemented an app now since before it was just messages. I think this way it'll be easier and as you mentioned make all of our lives easier. I'm glad you were able to notice your weaknesses and improve them it's hard sometimes to see where we go wrong. I have never heard of an app similar to this one which is a good start for you since competition won't be big.
